Deanery festival

This year our Deanery Festival was held at the Parish church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Rishton. Members from all over the Deanery attended the Festival service, as well as guests from other Deaneries and Black burn Diocese.

The Right Reverend Nicholas Reade, Lord Bishop of Blackburn, was our Preacher and his sermon gave us much to think about.

Before the start of the service Bishop Nicholas dedicated the new Rishton MU banner. The Branch members from Rishton worked very hard to raise money for the banner, which was made by Wendy Otter, and to have it ready in time for the festival.

After the service everyone was invited to join Bishop Nicholas, his wife Christine and Diocesan Guests for refreshments. The priest and members of Saint Charles RC Church Rishton very kindly allowed us to use their school hall for this purpose. Everyone enjoyed the cakes and scones baked by members of Rishton MU and church members.

Thank you to Father Paul Smith, Rishton Parish Priest, who organised the service, and to Kathleen Sowerbuts, Whalley Presiding Member, for all her hard work. Thank you also to all those who took part in the service.
