An early list of promises made by the Mothers' Union members in the Diocese of St Asaph.

Mothers Union

Diocese of St Asaph.

UpUp
  • To teach all boys and girls under our care modesty and self respect from the earliest years; and to make the best sleeping arrangements we can for them.
  • To keep them from bad companions, and not allow them to idle about the roads after dark.
  • Never to speak of sin as 'only a misfortune'.
  • To teach the boys to treat all women and girls with respect, and to protect them from wrong
  • To make careful enquiry as to places we let our girls take, and to watch over the young servants.
  • To train the children in habits of temperance, and not to send them to the public house.
  • Never to allow coarse jests, bad words, or low talk, before the children, nor to let them read bad books or police reports.
  • To kneel down and pray daily for husband and children, and to teach our children to pray.
  • To try by our example to make home what God meant it to be, and to teach our children to be: Pure, Obedient, Gentle, Truthful, Honest, Industrious.

Remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ:-

'He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved'.-St Mark XVl 16

'Except ye eat the Flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His Blood, ye have no life in you'.-S John Vl 53

Almighty God our Heavenly Father, pour out Thy Holy Spirit upon our Mothers' Union. Give us grace to train our children in Thy faith, fear and love. Keep them pure and holy. Help us to set them a good example, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen
