On
our recent diocesan pilgrimage to Turkey ‘In the Steps of St Paul’,
our lovely Turkish guide had some regular turns of phrase, which struck me
as appropriate to the Mothers’ Union. If she wanted us to gather round
to look at the site and listen to her commentary she would always begin by
saying “Let
me invite you …”
Beverley
reminded us in the last mu
news
that it is important to have a positive approach to the work of the
Mothers’ Union. One of the ways we could perhaps do this is by inviting
others
to see what we are doing and hear about our work. Maybe we could have a
meeting (perhaps with some food!) when we are all invited to bring a
friend. If we do not invite people they will not know what they are
missing!
From
the beginning of our pilgrimage our guide stressed that we should think of
ourselves as a group
of friends,
a
family
each
travelling our own way on the journey, but all on the same journey. Again,
Mothers’ Union is a family,
not just a random group of people, all with the same aims and objects –
and our family is worldwide!
Thanking
our driver at the end of the day was an essential ingredient before we
left the coach. Do we thank God enough for this great organisation to
which we all belong? In other parts of the world so many people are
thankful for the presence of the Mothers’ Union, not just for the work
it does for the poor and marginalised, but also for the support network it
provides for its members. Surely it is the same for us.
Finally,
whenever we were about to leave the coach, our guide would say, “Let’s
go …”
So, let’s go and invite others to join us with thankful hearts for this
great family to which we all belong.
With
love and prayers,
Christine
