I
am writing this four days after attending the General Meeting.
Like
myself, I know that many of you found it very informative and we heard of
the celebration of 10 years of the Literacy and Parenting programmes.
We
heard how over the last 10 years, 73,721 people have joined a literacy
circle with 53,148 going on to pass their exam to achieve a recognised
literacy level. This work and any new initiatives requires funding and one
of the ways we can achieve this is through the ‘Global Village Fair’
catalogue which was publicised in the last edition of MU News.
I
would like to thank Sheila Swift and her helpers who worked so hard on the
gift stall at the Guild Hall. Sheila and the literature reps will have
some of the unsold items in their stock, so look out for them when they
visit the branches.
We
now have to look forward and remember that the Mothers’ Union is not
just branch based, but we also need to support our Deaneries and Diocese
and the work of the Mothers’ Union worldwide.
Even
though we are in the middle of summer holidays, here in Marketing, our
thoughts are already turning to Christmas and over the next few weeks the
Diary and Christmas card order forms will be in the branches, so please
get your orders in early to avoid disappointment.
Don’t
forget the Literature Reps over the next few months. They will have the
Christmas cards in their stock and would love to come to your branch
meeting to show all the new items they will have for sale.
