What is AFIA?

The Away from It All Holiday Scheme is a practical and important way to help support family life. Each year the Mothers' Union in Blackburn Diocese offer holidays to families under stress. 14 families were given a holiday in the MU caravan on the Lancashire Coast
How is it funded? The scheme is funded by members of the MU. This funding enabled 24 adults and 24 children to take a caravan holiday this year. During the last 5 years 122 adults and 153 children have benefited.
What our Guests have said......
Who can have a holiday? The scheme is open to anyone who is under stress, families, couples, and individuals of any age who would benefit from a break they would not otherwise be able to take. Applicants do not have to be a member of a church or any organisation.

How can you apply for a holiday? Applicants must be referred for a holiday by a Mothers' Union member, a member of the clergy, a parish worker or a Reader.
Where are the holidays? Holidays are usually:
  • at the Mothers Union caravan on the Lancashire Coast
  • in self catering accommodation
  • in rented caravans for larger families, or
  • away-day breaks

The AFIA scheme tries to provide the most suitable holiday possible to ensure all have a very enjoyable time.
