What is the 'General Fund'?

How do we pay for the projects and the work undertaken by the Units?

The money that pays for this work comes from the Mothers’ Union Blackburn Diocese General Fund and includes: Donations from members and branches; Interest from Investments and Bank Accounts; Tax Refund from the Inland Revenue - the Gift Aid Scheme

In 2003 the income to the General Fund provided approximately 70% of the costs of the work of the Units and Projects.

Of members’ subscriptions: £6.35 per member is for Mary Sumner House to contribute to managing the Mothers’ Union Worldwide, and £3.15 per member is for the Diocese for administration and managing the Mothers’ Union in Blackburn Diocese. The work of the Mothers’ Union is carried out by the three Units:

·        Action & Outreach        AFIA Holidays; Social Concern; Drugs Awareness; Media; World Wide; Link Dioceses.

·        Marketing  Pop Ins; Diocesan News; MU Enterprises; Training.

·        Prayer & Spirituality IMPC Cards & Letters; IMPC- Prayer Diaries; Wave of Prayer.

In addition Projects are also undertaken and include: Royal Lancashire Show; Parenting Courses; Gifts for Link Dioceses e.g. Embroidery threads for Rwanda.

Thank you to all members, branches and deaneries for their donations over the years in supporting the work of the Mothers’ Union. The work carried out by the Diocese can only take place because of the generosity of the members. Continuing donations are vital to enable the work of the Mothers’ Union to continue.
